A former acting deputy tax legislative counsel for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Vivek helps clients address complex tax matters.

Vivek A. Chandrasekhar has experience with renewable energy tax credits, real estate and real estate investment trusts, partnership tax, and tax controversy. His government perspective and cross-disciplinary knowledge allow him to support clients on tax matters, including those concerning recent tax policy changes.

During his time at the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Tax Policy, Vivek developed experience with the energy tax provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He also honed his knowledge of real estate and partnership taxation, the taxation of Native Americans, and other areas of tax law.

Vivek spent more than four years as legislation counsel for the U.S. Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation. His work spanned a variety of tax-related areas, including legislation involving the income taxation of individuals, trusts, and estates; estate and gift taxation; real estate and business taxation; and the taxation of U.S. territories.

Outside his legal practice, Vivek is an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he co-instructs a class on partnership taxation. He previously co-taught a class on legal drafting for aspiring tax lawyers at George Washington University Law School.
