Rob assists domestic and international clients in the mechanical engineering sector with their patent and other IP needs.
Robert G. Woolston advises clients on matters involving mechanical engineering patents and provides due diligence analysis and counseling on IP portfolio development, management, enforcement, and licensing. He has experience in utility and design patent prosecution and counseling across a range of mechanical technologies, including sports equipment, footwear and apparel, manufacturing equipment, audio equipment, network systems, handling and destruction systems, hearth and heating systems, waste handling and management systems, carbon fiber technologies, electronic device vending and recycling systems, bamboo products, liquid-jet cutters, hunting and fishing products, lathe and wood-working systems, brewing technologies, ballistic-resistant materials, packaging equipment, aerospace and avionic systems, and building systems. He also has experience with consumer products, medical devices, and broadband communication systems.
In addition to patent prosecution and strategic portfolio management, Rob advises clients on portfolio development, management, and positioning; product clearance and design-around analysis; patent invalidity, infringement, and noninfringement opinions; landscape searches; and trademark prosecution. He also drafts and negotiates IP licenses and joint development, technology transfer, nondisclosure, and settlement agreements.
