Colin advises clients, from industry-leading companies to early-stage startups, on patent portfolio development, due diligence, landscape analysis, and valuations for sales and acquisitions.
Drawing from his engineering and technical background, Colin M. Fowler focuses on thoroughly understanding clients' technology in order to offer strategic patent advice and meet business goals.
A skilled patent attorney, Colin advises his clients, including financial services companies, manufacturers, and innovative technology companies, on matters concerning AI and machine learning; bioinformatics tools; cybersecurity; blockchain and cryptography; cloud computing; virtual, augmented, and mixed realities; video games; 3D printing; solar and battery technology; and nanoscale devices. He assists companies and inventors with early-stage IP portfolio management and development, the creation of IP committees, portfolio analytics, global portfolio strategy and prosecution, and coaching inventors on incomplete elements of their ideas to generate patentable matter.
Colin's practice extends to trademark prosecution. He coordinates and manages worldwide brand development and protection. He has also succeeded in difficult acquired secondary meaning cases to obtain trademark protection for descriptive marks, argued opposition proceedings, and drafted consent agreements.
Colin co-hosts Ashurst Perkin Coie’s Perpetual Motion podcast, an interview program focused on creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. Colin speaks with successful inventors about their inventive pride and joy, process, and views on creativity. Perpetual Motion is available on all major podcast platforms.
